Graphic Design Foundations

In each segment of the Graphic Design Course, you will be working with actual real world examples, allowing you to learn the real skills necessary for the graphic design field. There will be homework assignments after every lesson, reviewing the concepts taught in that lesson. An instructor will review your assignments and provide video comments and design suggestions. As well, the course wll culminates with 6 final portfolio pieces as well as 20 supplemental portfolio pieces, which will showcase and tie together all the skills learnt.

 Basic Design Theory and Print Preparation
You’ll establish a firm foundation for taking on professional design work.  You will learn the basics of Graphic Design Principles, Typography, and Color Theory, Logo and Corporate identity materials, Advertising design, and Packaging design. You will receive tips on how to improve your work and learn new design skills through feedback received from our experienced designers on staff. There will also be sessions focused exclusively to portfolio preparation.  Finish off the course with learning how to prepare your documents for print!

AID: Adobe InDesign
InDesign is covered comprehensively, including basic layout, text and graphics manipulation, guides, color creation and application, style sheets, master pages, multiple pages, justification, hyphenations, and more. Students will create a postcard, advertisement, newsletter, menu, resume, brochure, catalog, cookbook section, and more

AI: Adobe Illustrator
A completely hands-on approach to creating illustrations and beautiful type with Adobe Illustrator.  Students create many illustrations while strategies for easy execution are discussed and practiced. The course covers drawing, typography, shape combination, special effects, layers, patterns, blends, custom color, logo creation and much more. Students will create a several corporate identity kits, advertisements, poster, invitation layout, gift bag, greeting cards, comic strip, illustrations and more.

AP: Adobe Photoshop
A comprehensive class, with an emphasis on the application of concepts to real work situations. You will work on many images! Projects include everything from simple color correction to complex photo retouching, providing an overview from scanned image to printed piece. The course covers advanced selections, retouching, layers, patterns, adjustment layers, masks, type effects, paths, and special filters. Students will create cd covers, photo retouching, advertisements, book cover, a room renovation and more.
