The Complete Graphic Design Program covers both basic and advanced design concepts.Start off by learning the essential graphic design computer programs: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Once you have solid knowledge of them, you will continute with more advanced concepts such as honing your design process, as you research each project, develop concepts, work with constructive feedback, and develop quality pieces for your portfolio. When you finish this course you will feel more than ready to conquer the Graohic Design world!
The following is what is covered during the course.
Part 1
AID: Adobe InDesign
InDesign is covered comprehensively, including basic layout, text and graphics manipulation, drawing tools (bezier curves), color creation and application, style sheets, master pages, multiple pages, justification, hyphenation, indexing, table of contents, and much more. Essential typography rules are also covered.
AI: Adobe Illustrator
A completely hands-on approach to creating illustrations and beautiful type with Adobe Illustrator. Students create many illustrations while strategies for easy execution are discussed and practiced. The course covers drawing, typography, shape combination, special effects, layers, patterns, blends, custom color, logo creation and much more.
AP: Adobe Photoshop
A comprehensive class, with an emphasis on the application of concepts to real work situations. You will work on many images! Projects include everything from simple color correction to complex photo retouching, providing an overview from scanned image to printed piece. The course covers advanced selections, retouching, layers, patterns, adjustment layers, masks, type effects, paths, channels, smart objects and special filters.
Graphic designers today must be ready to tackle a wide range of projects from identity design to editorial design to product and packaging design.
Part 2
In this section, you'll establish a firm foundation for taking on professional design work. You'll gain insights from industry veterans and explore the challenges of designing posters, logos, magazine covers, book layouts, 3D designs, and brand identities.
Looking to establish a career as a freelance designer? The course also provides you opportunities to hone your design process, as you research each project, develop concepts, work with constructive feedback, and develop quality pieces for your portfolio.
Students will learn how to:
Develop graphic design work and concepts based on professional creative approaches and
techniques.
Apply traditional and digital design techniques to create polished graphic design pieces.
Select and set typography to communicate a specific message in logo designs and page
layouts.
Use knowledge of the characteristics of type to create cohesive and expressive logo
designs.
Use a layout grid and professional layout rules to design engaging magazine covers, article
spreads, book covers, and book chapter pages.
Create magazine and book layout designs with a clear visual hierarchy of information.
Create a basic three-dimensional product packaging design working from a client brief.
Incorporate existing brand rules into product packaging designs and other graphic design
projects.
Develop an understanding of how to manage the graphic designer/client/vendor
relationship, including promotion and billing.
Organize work for use in physical and online design portfolios and produce a final portfolio
piece that involves printing, labeling, package design, and photography.
